At Work

Painted on location in the lavender field at Durant Farm near Dundee, Oregon. The bees swarm around the hive, ignoring me as I set up my easel. The bees had clear flight paths, lines in air, and as they left the hive they flew away into the sky with impressive speed. I couldn’t get too close, lest I risk getting in the way of their flight paths. Other bees swarmed around the entrance, for reasons that were not clear to me. The experience was a mixture of my favorite things, painting combined with close observation of nature.
